It must be a long term goal that the non-motorway parts of the N11 through Wicklow be converted to motorway, either by building deviations or providing missing side roads. A relatively easy part is the section through junctions 12-14 - the Newtownmountkennedy bypass, which opened in 1990. To achieve this, only minor work will be needed, the majority of which is to rebuild Jct 13 between the townlands of Killadreenan and Newcastle Upper. The bus stops located right on the dual carriageway mainline would have to be moved to new side roads, marked in yellow on the map below.

There are separate pages on widening the part northwest of Bray and replacing the Jct 6-12 section with a new motorway (here are two ideas for this).

Update July 2019: This will be improved as part of the M11 Bray-Ashford scheme currently making its way through planning.
